Advertising on A Taste of the Peak District

But you may want to read some or all of the following questions and answers before proceeding ...

Why is there an annual charge?

We are constantly working on promoting the site so that we can deliver results to advertisers so that is why the cost is recurring. We feel that it is only fair that if we work to promote your property we are paid for that work.

What about renewals, are you pushy?

No, definitely not. At the end of the advertising period, we will not pester you to renew, we will simply send an email invoice reminder that your advert is soon to expire and it is then your choice to renew. If you choose not to continue with your advert, we will delete it shortly after the expiry date.

Why are you cheaper than the some of the other Peak District web sites?

We notice that some of the more expensive sites are knocking us because we are cheaper - making claims that it is because we are desperate for business and receive few visitors. We feel that our price is a reasonable rate and we also realise that you do not want to spend too much of your hard-earned income - we are not greedy.

OK, lets talk statistics then ...

For most of the year the site receives on average around 400 - 500 unique visits per day, though obviously that does fluctuate depending on season. The main season for accommodation seekers is Jan - March inclusive. Please note that we talk in terms of unique visitors and not hits as quoted by other sites. We think that quoting hits is a little cynical (or shows they do not really understand the nature of web site statistics) because hits are very different to the real number of visitors (and different to page views of which we have around 25 - 30 thousand each month). One visitor can create hundreds of hits by looking at just a few pages (a hit is recorded each time a file or image is loaded from the web server). So quoting hits is very misleading and inevitably much higher than the real visitor figures - although December is always very slow at around 300 per day - with normally something like 25 - 35% of visitors searching the accommodation pages, should you wish to verify these figures for yourself we can supply you with the log in details of our statistics counter. Now, is any other site as transparent as that?

Some of our competitors claim thousands of pages on their site, true they do ... but ask yourself is there any real content on those pages and more importantly, will it bring in visitors looking for accommodation, or are they just designed to inflate visitor figures?

Why do we ask for payment in advance?

Sadly, even amongst accommodation owners there are people who are quite happy to exploit others. We have had several instances of this where the advert has been placed and no payment received despite repeated requests.

Why should we trust you?

Anyone can claim to be trustworthy so that is a tricky one to answer. We are transparent about the costs and have taken every care to comply with the distance selling regulations to give you confidence. In accordance with the latter, we provide you with a durable copy of the terms and conditions here. Please save a copy on your computer or print it off for your records. We send a proper receipt as soon as is practically possible after payment. You have a 7 day cooling off period during which you can request a full refund (less any expenses that we have incurred as a result of your order), provided that you have not used the service. If you create your advert i.e. use the service within that 7 days, then in the eyes of the law you are deemed to have waived your right to any cooling off period.

For your security, when paying by credit or debit card, we use PayPal as a Payment processor - that way, we never see your card details.

If you really would like independent confirmation that we are trustworthy, we can put you in contact with some of our long standing clients (although the paranoid might suspect that is probably a set up!).

I am not happy about paying someone in London for advertising on a Peak District site.

The London address is our virtual office and post is forwarded to us from there. We lived and worked in and around the Peak District from 1980 to 2009 plus having spent time here on family holidays in the 1960s and 1970s so we know the area well, particularly from an outdoors perspective of walking, climbing and mountain biking ... as you can probably tell from the information on the site. We actually now live in France - for more information please see http://www.chevinside.com/about.php

We also know about building websites that are seen in the search engines so that combination gives us the ability to ensure that the site is still seen in the search engines, even though we don't live locally any more.

If our location puts you off then so be it.

What is the cost of advertising?

An advert promoting a bed and Breakfast, Guest House, hotel or self-catering cottage(s) at one physical location costs from £45 per year, payable in advance.

What do I get for my money?

You get a full page of information about your Peak District self catering cottage, hotel, guest house or bed and breakfast that can include up to 5 images. There are taster adverts on the site in the different accommodation sections as relevant to your business and your details will be added to the searchable database so that visitors can find you by searching for nearby places and attractions, or by searching for you by the name of your accommodation. In addition, you will be given log in details that will enable you to update your advert at any time from any computer with internet access. You can also use the special offers section to highlight any deals.

I'm definitely interested so how do I get listed on A Taste of the Peak District?
