Curbar Edge - Trackside Boulder.

With generally good landings, the Trackside Boulder at Curbar is great if your mates are not around and you want some action. It is barely 12 feet high, with a range of grades, so you can warm up and then push yourself. But you will probably not be a Johnny-no-mates for long as it can be quite popular. The bulk of the routes are on the front face, along the side of the track, the warm-ups are on your left and on the uphill side of the block. The traverse of the back of the boulder is a good warm up as it has plenty of moves.

In this shot of the boulder, Baslow Edge is in the background and Dave is heading off up the awkward little crack just right of centre of the front face. To the right of that are several hard problems on small slopers whilst to the left are some more amenable routes up. The obvious two hole problem is a piece of cake for tall buggers but for us shorties need to use some thoughtful footwork or just dyno to the top hole. Gorilla warfare, the thuggy traverse in a dismal hole (am I selling it here?) is about 50m away, at the base of the big pointy boulder. The other Curbar bouldering areas are small, scattered and further from the road - but in our opinion well worth seeking out.
