Guides to walking in the Peak - see the 'booksales' section of this site or if you want something a little less of a challenge than the 4 Inns Walk try Pub walks, tea shop walks or classic walks (in association with Amazon). Click here for views from walks (large files so will be slow - you have been warned!). If you are looking for somewhere to stay, try our accommodation section for a selection of self catering and bed and breakfast holiday accommodation.
The Four Inns Walk is a really tough challenge walk organised by the Derbyshire Scout Association. The distance is 40 miles (65 km) through some of the Peak District's most challenging and remote terrain. It is called the 4 Inns because it passes 3 pubs on the way plus the site of another. There are prizes for the fastest finishers (some turn it into the Foru Inns Run) and a finisher's certificate for all teams completing this event.
The route starts at Holmbridge, past the derelict Isle of Skye Inn, crosses Bleaklow to the Snake Inn, across Kinder to the Old Nags Head Inn at Edale then over the moors to Chapel en le Frith, Goyt Valley, the Cat and Fiddle Inn and finally drops down into Buxton. There is an entry fee which may seem quite steep but please remember, even though it is organised by volunteers, the other stuff costs about £10,000. Even the Scout Association can't subsidise that!
For your entry fee, you get ...
Overnight accommodation on Friday and Saturday.
Camping available on the Friday evening.
Meals on Saturday morning & evening, and on Sunday morning.
Refreshments at most Checkpoints.
Transport on retirement to accommodation at the Finish.
Transport of kit from Holmbridge to Buxton.
First Aid and shower facilities at Buxton.
Full set of results (available on website).
Finishing Certificates (providing you finish!)
For full details including current cost, date of the next event, please visit the Four Inns web site.
Disclaimer - please make sure that your team has the necessary skills, equipment and fitness before setting off into the hills. It is often necessary to be able to navigate through peat bogs and over open moorland using a map and compass. The weather can change very quickly in the hills so be prepared. The entry booklet contains a list of clothing etc that your team must carry plus contingency plans in case of extreme weather.
