A Taste of the
Peak District
Peak District, Derbyshire wine appreciation holidays …
Wine stems from an extended and rich history dating back about 8,000 years and is thought to have originated in the middle east and was in common use in classical Greece and Rome. Wine has also played an important role in religion since ancient times with various gods representing wine.
Wine is essentially the fermented juice of grapes; the natural yeasts on the grape skins convert the fruit sugars into alcohol and produce the pleasant flavours. Tasting wine involves the sense of smell as well as taste, and some may argue that it also involves the sense of sight too.
Red wine or white wine? Or maybe a rose? New World or Old World wines? If you enjoy wine and would like to learn a little more about wine tasting, choosing a decent wine and wine making then the Skylark Holidays wine appreciation holiday is for you. On this two day break - based near Sutton on the Hill in the south of Derbyshire, within easy reach of Derby, Burton and Ashbourne and close to the Peak District and the National Forest - you will learn wine tasting techniques, what labels can tell you and start to appreciate the different grape varieties. The 4 or 5 wine tasting sessions should help you to make more informed choices when you next select a bottle or two of wine.
