Parson House Outdoor Pursuit Centre provides a safe environment for outdoor activities for children and adults. Our instructors are fully qualified and experienced in a wide range of disciplines. The outdoors can be dangerous, which is part of the attraction, so safety aspects are always emphasised. Parson House is set in the heart of the Peak District National Park, on Burbage Moor, surrounded by beautiful countryside. We provide a wide range of activities for example:
Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Bouldering - climbing remains one of the most popular outdoor activities. Whether you are new to the sport, wish to develop your existing skills or need a formal climbing qualification, we have something for you. Based in the spectacular and beautiful Peak District which has possibly the finest rock in Britain (gritstone), combined with Parson House as your base camp, this is the perfect opportunity to further your climbing or abseiling skills. Our instructors carefully tailor your instruction to your needs. As well as getting plenty of hands-on experience, you will get the opportunity to learn about the climbing equipment and essential rope and safety techniques. We even have an indoor climbing wall with flakes, cracks, overhangs, lead climbs you name it we've got it. Learn how to belay and set climbs up, then let us proceed outdoors, you'll love it ... Or try bouldering. Bouldering can be part of a climbing session or can be done as an activity on its own - perfect for a hot summers day following a brook, stepping/jumping from rock to rock, jumping from one side to the other, the braver you get, the bigger the jumps! The trick is to - stay dry! Great fun for kids and adults.
Caving & Mining - a great activity for any season as the temperature underground remains constant throughout the year. Investigate the amazing underground world of the Peak District. Your instructor will choose a route to suit your ability and comfort levels - you will never be forced into a situation that you are not entirely comfortable with. As well as the activity, our cave and mine leaders will act as guides, with interesting tales of the miners and underground sightseeing of strange formations such as the Oyster Beds, plus stalagmites and stalactites or course. A safe introduction to this activity with qualified leaders.
Canoeing & Kayaking - white water rapids, leisurely river touring or still open water, we have something to offer every age group and ability level. Kayaking offers you the opportunity to master your own boat, while canoeing gives you the security and stability of a larger craft - ideal for families. We teach you the basics followed by games to develop skills and confidence. We provide all the necessary equipment and transport, all you need to bring is a towel, change of clothing and footwear.
Orienteering - walk amongst the magic Peak District hills over heather covered moors, accompanied by an experienced and qualified guide. Ascend one of the better-known summits of the area or get off the beaten track into the more remote fells. Our local area offers featureless moors, high tors, farmland and wooded valleys - the ideal venue to learn useful navigational techniques. We can show you the basics of navigation or take your skills to a higher level. Honing your navigational skills gives you the key to all those areas beyond the signposted walks and walking guides.
Team Building - The value of Outdoor Pursuits as team building exercises can be of immense value to your business. Create a sense of unity and camaraderie within your workforce plus improved confidence and communication skills, all of which will benefit your business and improve your workforce's morale. We have some great team building courses, Operation Burbage (1 day), The Omega Project (2 days) and The Orpheus Trail (5 days) which are all tailored to resolve work related problem solving by using fun team games, activities and excercises.
