The edges above Baslow (Birchen, Gardoms, Baslow).
Park in the public car park next to the Robin Hood pub, NOT the pub car park please! Walk back towards Baslow and take the path up to Gardoms Edge (stile over the wall on the right, shortly after passing the farm entrance). Follow this through a marshy section and up through a pasture past a small crag on the right. Just past a field boundary take the lower path to the left which passes below Gardoms Edge. Enjoy the beautiful open deciduous woodland walking that brings you out at the Sheffield to Baslow road. Cross this and follow the path opposite, past a house with a superb garden and up through the woodlands towards Baslow Edge. Take the lower path past Baslow Edge (marshy in places) to the road from Calver leading to Curbar Gap. Go up to the gap and come back along the top of the Baslow Edge to Wellington’s monument. Turn left and follow the track to the road. At the road, turn right and head downhill to the Sheffield to Baslow road again. Carefully cross this and take the path that traverses the moor diagonally, away from the Sheffield road, not the path that runs parallel to the road. This is march in places and brings you back to Birchen Edge. The main path leads you below Birchen to a road. Turn right and walk along this to return to the Robin Hood parking area. There is a lesser used path via the top of Birchen Edge, the right hand turn and steep descent to the main path is easy to miss.
Disclaimer - please make sure that your party has the necessary skills, equipment and fitness before setting off into the hills. It is often necessary to be able to navigate through peat bogs and over open moorland using a map and compass in the Dark Peak. The weather can change very quickly in the hills so be prepared.
