Gardom’s and Baslow Edges from Baslow

Park by the telephone exchange at Baslow. Walk up hill and take the concessionary path through the woods (right hand track in amongst the houses, just after the one with a large lawned garden). After the path turns abruptly left, you soon rejoin the track/road up to Baslow Edge. Turn right, uphill and at the gate follow the wall on the right hand side (trust me!!) this goes down through the woods to cross the Sheffield road. This can be quite wet in places, even in the summer. Follow the path behind the cottage that fronts the Sheffield road and continue up, through woodland below Gardom’s Edge. At the wall, follow the path to the left, alongside the wall. As it levels off, you can look across  the Eric Byne Campsite (pedestrian access only via the farm) towards Birchen Edge. Pass through another wall straight ahead via a gap, to walk along the top of the Edge. You get great views across Derbyshire from here. At the end of Gardom’s, cross the Moorland, parallel to the Sheffield road. Cross this road at the crossroads (care - the traffic is travelling at high speed at this point). After a couple of minutes uphill, take the path across the moorland on the right. This feels quite remote (but isn’t really!). This brings you to the start of white Edge. Turn left, down hill cross a stream via a tractor bridge and follow the path uphill to the car park at Curbar Gap. Continue along the road in the direction of Curbar and pick up the track on the left, along Baslow Edge. Either walk along the main track, well defined and set back from the edge, or walk closer to the edge along narrower paths - either are enjoyable. Just before reaching Wellington’s Monument, turn right and head down hill, down the road you started up, back into Baslow. If you wish, it is easy enough to find the end of the path through the woods - the one you started on.
