    YHA Cycling Holidays in the Peak District

    The YHA offer some amazing accommodation at an affordable price. Each of the chosen places to stay on our tours are in historic manor houses, interesting Victorian buildings & country retreats.

    Each tour has been planned so that you start from a town or village easily accessable by train, however tours can start or finish from any location. Tours can be tailored to include extra days or detours to other places in the Peak District.

    The prices quoted here are for dormitory rooms of up to 8-12 people. Some hostels have four bed or double bed rooms at an extra charge, please contact us to discuss availability..

    Although the difficulty/easiness of a tour depends very much on individual opinion all tours are graded to give you an idea of what to expect from a tour.

    Grade A: 10 - 20 miles of almost flat cycling but a few small hills.

    Grade B: 15 - 30 miles of undulating tracks & country lanes with 2-3 longer hills.

    Grade C: 20 - 40 miles with a number of difficult hills.

    Discover the fantastic Victorian resort of Matlock & Matlock Bath where you can take the cable car to the 'Heights of Abraham'. Pass through Cromford to join the High Peak Trail up to Middleton Top to join the Pennine Bridleway. This fantastic ride takes you to Hartington where you will stay in the magnificent 17th century manor house with log fires, oak panelling & a bed where Bonnie Prince Charlie once slept. Continuing through rolling fields and past impressive rows of endless stone walls to Bakewell you continue through one of Derbyshires prettiest villages at Ashford-in-the-water. You travel through Monsal Dale to Ravenstor with spectacular views down to the River Wye below. Pass throuh Tideswell & Eyam through the Chatsworth Estate before climbing to Beeley Moor for the final fantastic descent down into Matlock.

    High Peak Highlights

    Departing from Hathersage you will discover the alpine beauty of the Upper Derwent reservoirs. A fantastic gently undulating trail takes you around the banks of the Ladybower, Derwent & Howden reservoirs. Your stay in Castleton allows time for many activities such as a visit to one of Castleton’s spectacular show caverns or take a walk to Mam Tor to appreciate the fine views over both the Hope & Edale valleys. Your journey south takes you through 'Cathederal of the Peak' Tideswell & the picture postcard scenery around Monsal Head, before arriving at Bakewell where you can sample the delicious pudding. Pass through the Chatsworth Estate en-route to Eyam before dropping back down to your starting point at Hathersage.

     Similar to our Limestone Way tour this shorter tour is suitable for those with limited cycling experience or for those who wish to combine cycling with some of the best walking trails the Peak District has to offer. Departing from Matlock your ride takes you to Ilam, where yo will stay at the fantastic gothic manor house of Ilam Hall. Set amongst 84 acres of country park on the banks of the river Manifold Ilam provides the perfect base for exploring Derbyshires best known dale, Dovedale. Pass through Tissington to the typical Peak District village of Youlgreave with the chance of more superb walks through the gorge at Lathkill Dale. You final day takes you through Elton & Winster before arriving back in Matlock in good time.
