Sports Related Benefits
Muscle Maintenance
Most people who are serious about improving their performance
do so by using a training schedule. In seeking continuous improvement there
is a commitment to a systematic increase in the level of training. This subjects
the body to additional stress through controlled overuse.
Such stresses and overuse can lead to muscular imbalances which may impede
performance and cause discomfort. If ignored, these problems can become chronic
and lead to more serious injuries which may ultimately prevent an individual
from training and competing at all.
Applied skillfully, sports massage can be a very effective technique for
releasing tension and restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system. It
can be a valuable part in any athlete’s preparation and recovery, preventing
injury and helping to achieve optimal performance.
Pre and Post Event Massage
Pre-event massage warms up the muscles in a specific area, getting the blood circulation flowing freely to increase flexibility and mobility before an event. Post event will helps relieve muscle soreness and tightness and help remove toxic waste from muscles that build up during a sporting event.
Assisted Stretches
Massage techniques which stretch the muscle, along with stretching assisted by a sports massage practitioner, can aid your existing stretching programme.
Rock Climber’s Massage
Janine has worked with a number of climbers whilst training and since qualifying and has developed a climber’s sports massage treatment which helps muscles deal with the particular physical requirements of climbing. The treatment can help improve flexibility, aid recovery from tough sessions or prepare your muscles for the next ‘big trip’. As an integral part of a training regime, it can also help push your training standards through a ‘plateau’ in grade improvement.
Non Sports Related Benefits
Neck and Back Pain
Most of us suffer from neck or back pain at sometime during our working lives, be it from poor posture at your desk, driving, or from manual work. This can lead to stiffness and tension in the lower or upper back, shoulders or neck. Sports massage can help relax the muscles and help solve these problems.
Headaches, tension and stress
Poor circulation or tension in the muscles of the upper back, shoulder or neck can lead to headache and pain. If you are stressed out then massage can improve circulation and relax the muscles in the upper back and neck thus helping reduce headache pain caused by stress. Massage is also deeply relaxing and helps to generally unwind from day to day stresses.
Tight and sore calves
If you are on your feet all day, or have over trained the calf muscles through running, and have tight, sore calves a massage can help improve circulation and relax the muscles.
Scar tissue
Specific techniques are used to break down scar tissue and adhesions that bind tissue together and restrict movement. This is an extremely effective way of removing scar tissue.

Sports Massage can be provided for sports events, back-stage at concerts, supporting performing arts, as well as at corporate hospitality days.
